Flood Protection Project Phase 3

In this third phase, structural flood protection will be extended along North Maquinna Drive from north of Rogers Street to Head Bay Road to protect Tahsis North Village from riverine and coastal floods up to 1:200 year rainfall levels (accounting for storm, tide and sea level rise effects). An estimated~$41 million worth of public and private assets and essential infrastructure is currently at risk in this area of the Village. The project budget is $2,892,152 which is funded with $2,120,815 in federal/provincial contributions, plus an additional $482,122 in provincial funding for a total of $2,602,937 from senior levels of government. The Village’s contribution is $289,215.

Head Bay Forest Service Road – Community Questionnaire Results and Presentation

In 2023, responding to numerous complaints from residents, visitors, businesses and first responders about the conditions and maintenance of the Head Bay Forest Service Road, the Village sought feedback through a questionnaire.  The results of the questionnaire and comments from respondents are posted below. This information has been shared with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Tahsis Tourist Information Centre and Museum Upgrade Project

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

PHASE 2

In March 2023, the Village received $497,479 from the Province under the Rural Economic Development and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) for the “Tahsis Tourist Centre Upgrade Project”.  The project is intended to:

• Extend the useful life of the building
• Enhance visitors’ experience and service by making the building more accessible and inclusive
• Create space which could be used by local artisans, businesses and Indigenous artists

The project is proceeding in 2 phases.

• Phase 1 – improving exterior and interior accessibility and augmenting the existing building structure
• Phase 2 – interior space refresh including creating space for broader community use.

The Phase 1 consultation occurred in May and June, 2024.  Phase 1 construction is underway. This is the consultation for Phase 2.

Two options for the interior space renovation are presented.  Please indicate your preference and provide comments on either or both options and any other aspect of the proposed design.
