SERVICES & AMENITIES

Our village amenities include a full-service recreation facility complete with four 5-pin bowling lanes, pool tables, Internet access, swimming pool and sauna, fully equipped gym, and basketball court. The Recreation Centre is open 7 days a week and is also available for rentals.

 

Tahsis also has a public library with Internet access and wireless capabilities, a Health Centre with a 24-hour on-call nurse and a doctor visiting 2 days each week, and a full-service Canada Post outlet. A courier service runs from Courtenay to Tahsis Monday through Friday, and freight delivery services are also available.

 

Captain Meares School teaches children from kindergarten through Grade 12 and has an adult learning centre that offers high school upgrading as well as general interest courses. Services and businesses include restaurants, grocery store, building supply store, hotel, motel, marinas, B&Bs, campgrounds, various tourism operators, a boat launch with parking/storage lot, and a full-service gas station.

 

Tahsis is equipped with high-speed Internet access and receives service from Telus, BC Hydro, and Conuma Cable.

Public works

The Village delivers and maintains key road, water and sewer infrastructure and services through its public works department. Tahsis benefits from infrastructure investments made by the former Tahsis Company prior to the Village’s incorporation in 1970. By bylaw, all residential and commercial properties must be tied to the Village’s sewer system. In addition, the Village is fortunate to have an abundant aquifer which provides clean drinking water which exceeds the Canadian Drinking Water Guideline standards. Weekly curbside garbage pickup is provided as well as maintenance of parks, trails and other green spaces. The Village also operates a landfill and recycling depot on behalf of Strathcona Comox Waste Management.
